In her final moments, Orlando promises her that Conrad will never see war again in his life.
After this prologue, the story jumps forward 12 years, just before the start of the First World War. Conrad is trained in hand-to-hand combat by Orlando’s employees Polly and Shola, and he takes flying lessons with his father. Father and son are there when the Austrian heir to the throne Franz Ferdinand and his wife are murdered in Sarajevo. It is becoming apparent that the assassination is part of a great conspiracy to throw the world into chaos.
Several leaders, including those of Germany, the United States and Russia, are being manipulated by an organization led by a Scotsman whose identity is in The King’s Man – The Beginning remains a secret until the finale. The aim of the organization is the end of England. So this leader and his spies in the highest circles of government are driving the most powerful states in the world into the largest and most comprehensive war that mankind had seen until then.
