The second feature film by Canadian Anthony Scott Burns ( Our House ), Come True tells the story of Sarah (Julia Sarah Stone, also seen in Weirdos). We meet the young woman as she fled her parents’ house and tries every evening to find a new place to sleep, sometimes resigning herself to lying under the stars in a children’s park. . Sarah suffers from terrible nightmares and avoids sleep as much as possible. This chronic lack causes her episodes of narcolepsy and when she sees an ad for a study on sleep disorders, our protagonist does not think twice before submitting her application. What she does not know is that the scientists who will experiment on her are in fact testing a new invention that allows them to spy on the dreams of their guinea pigs.
Anthony Scott Burns had made a strong impression with his short film Father’s Day , best segment of the horror anthology Holidays , and the filmmaker here revives his hypnotic qualities. Punctuated by the music of Electric Youth , Come True tries to induce us into a state of trance. Scott Burns signs the photograph of the film, with magnificent blue tints. He is also responsible for the special effects present in the story’s many dream scenes, which employ eerie imagery reminiscent of what victims of sleep paralysis describe.
