Especially at the beginning, Scream relies heavily on name dropping when all sorts of colleagues are quoted, from the 80s to the present day. That’s not particularly clever. At times it also seems more about completing a list than actually telling a story. But it’s fun, at least if you belong to the target group. This should not only be familiar with the genre itself, but also with the history of the Scream series. There is constant reference to the previous parts, be it directly or indirectly. The previously introduced film-within-a-film series Stab still exists and proliferated in a way that you only find in this film segment.

In contrast to other nostalgic excesses, one is always aware of what one is doing. It also succeeds better than many others in serving this need without having to twist oneself too much. It’s all pretty well integrated with the characteristic meta elements. However, screenwriters James Vanderbilt ( Murder Mystery ) and Guy Busick ( Castle Rock) never quite decide whether they want to dismantle the clichés or confirm them. This isn’t new to the series either, but it does lead to several annoying situations here. On the one hand, the characters are so savvy and know exactly what to do, only to choose the dumbest reaction at crucial moments. For example, if the unconscious killer is on the ground and there are several people around, it shouldn’t be difficult to actually hold Ghostface down, take away his weapons, or at least take off his mask. Instead, they run away again. There are also fight scenes in which the victims show themselves to be very defensive and then are never consistent. Watch more Batflix Horror movies free streaming within a click.
