On this occasion, Blunt shows off his talent, compensating, with a sober performance, the nonsense that his character stars in. That balance is the one on which the film is based and the one that allows us to be interested in a plot that, otherwise, we would have been able to with our patience.
His character’s relationship with his fellow adventurer, however, is a total flaw. If nothing more than a beautiful friendship had formed between them, the situation would have been very different, and surely Dwayne Johnson’s performance would have been more convincing. Too bad they have seen it necessary to include a romantic element in an adventure film that already has too many components.
Let’s see, Jungle Cruise is very well fulfilling its objectives, which place it in the shadow of the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie , but without actually emulating it, and in an intermediate territory between After the Green Heart and The Mummy . Be careful: it is not a bad formula for a summer training film for the whole family with a mixture of genres, a lot of comedy, zero drama and actors who perfectly defend the formula, turning the feature film into the most fun entertainment that we are going to see that summer on the billboard.
