When you view “Bullet Train,” the latest film from filmmaker David Leitch, similarities to “Kill Bill” (or Tarantino in general) are unavoidable: its combination of genres, strange black comedy, and explicit violence are quite evocative of the director of “Pulp Fiction.” Leitch provides us with possibly his greatest work as a single filmmaker thus far, free of the constraints and expectations set by his previous work and with a far more casual tone than “Atomic.”
Brad Pitt leads an all-star ensemble in this comedy with a clever premise: he’s an agent code-named “Catarina” who believes he’s out of luck. His task seemed to be straightforward: board the Tokyo bullet train and remove a suitcase. However, as he expected, it would not be a simple task: the train was packed with killers and thugs with varying objectives, making his goal much more difficult.
